The summer greens on Garia Course are closed as of today, and we are now playing on the winter course, which is open in all weather conditions.

Greenkeeper work in week 39

Hi everyone,

We will be top-dressing the greens on Garia Course on Monday 21/9. The work will be carried out without closing the greens — and in such a way that players are disturbed as little as possible.

During week 39 we will be carrying out a lot of work with greens, fore-greens and tees. We need to drain the 16th green on Garia (this will be done on Tuesday 22/9). Futhermore, the greens and fore-greens will be top-dressed.

We are currently experiencing some challenges/problems with worms on Garia’s greens, on the fore-greens of both courses, and all the old tees. So we are currently experimenting with a remedy that makes life difficult for the worms (environmentally approved, of course). The product should result in our being able to maintain a really good playing surface for the rest of the year and that the wear and tear of our machines doesn’t do as much damage.

The various jobs will be carried out, so as not to disturb the players, and will be announced the day before (naturally, the weather needs to be optimal).

Best regards, Himmerland’s Greenkeeper Team

17/9 2015

Garia Course hole 2

The fairway of hole 2 on Garia Course is unfortunately under water.

Hole 2 will therefore be played from the old tee on the 1st green until further notice.

Best regards, Himmerland’s Greenkeeper Team

7/9 2015

Greenkeeper work in week 37

Garia Course

The greens on Garia Course will be pricked on Monday and Tuesday. The work will be carried out as not to disturb play in any way, however the greens may seem a little “uneven” immediately after being pricked, but they will be rolled afterwards.

We prick the greens to keep the service dry and allow air to get through to the roots, thereby strengthening the turf and trying to minimize disease.

Backtee Course

The greens on Backtee Course will be top-dressed on Wednesday morning. Each green will get 175kg of dry sand. The greens will get a more even surface as a result of the thin layer of sand, and thereby a much better playing surface.

Best regards, Himmerland’s Greenkeeper Team

Greenkeeper work in week 24

Hi everyone,

We’ve got another exciting week ahead of us, filled with some good events. We’re really happy about that, as it gives us an opportunity to show our golf courses off to all the guests.
But it is also a week where there are a lot of jobs to do on the courses — as always, we will do our best to carry out the work with bothering the players too much.

On Monday we will be topdressing the foregreens on Backtee Course. The sand will be patted down before the first players arrive, but it will still be visible and may have a slight effect on play around the greens.

We will also be making our new 13th tee on Backtee Course, which will be sown on Tuesday, and we are making a new path on hole 6 Backtee Course.

Finally, we will also be fertilising greens and top-dressing greens and tees — these jobs will be carried out at the end of the day and during the evenings.

We are hoping for good weather to help make all these jobs much faster and easier.

Best regards, Himmerland’s Greenkeeper Team

PS. Hole 2 on Garia Course is now open as a par 4 hole again.

31/5 2015

Week 23

Made in Denmark 2015 is just around the corner, and we therefore have various jobs that need to be done on the golf course.
So, this week we will be working on the following (assuming the weather is on our side)…

We have closed Backtee Course on Tuesday 2/6 until noon, when we should manage the following:

  • Re-sowing of greens
  • Top-dressing of greens with approx. 400kg sand per green.
  • Pricking of greens.
  • Top-dressing of forgreens.

Plus, we will also be:

  • Pricking all greens on Garia Course.
  • Top-dressing greens on Garia Course.
  • Making a new path on Backtee Course hole 6 – grass reinforcement mats by the green.
  • Putting some new flag poles up by the centre.

Finally all our daily cutting tasks. So another exciting week in Himmerland!

Best regards, Himmerland’s Greenkeeper Team

PS. From Monday 1/6 we will be returning to 3 colour flags on the greens – white in the back 1/3, yellow in the middle and red in the front 1/3.

30/5 2015

Hole 2 Garia Course

Hi everyone,

Due to the heavy rainfall, the fairway on hole 2 Garia Course is under water, so the hole will therefore be played as a par 3 hole.
The tee has been moved to the “old” tee behind green 1.

Best regards, Himmerland’s Greenkeeper Team

11/5 2015

Week 20

Hi everyone!

In week 20 (11/5-17/5) we have a lot of exciting projects:

  1. We need to drain/dig the 4th fairway on Garia Course – major water challenges
  2. Drain the 16th green, also on Garia Course – water challenges
  3. All greens will be topdressed Monday morning – without disturbing the players
  4. Certain areas will be sprayed for weeds

Furthermore we will be mowing the course and setting it up for Company Days on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Best regards, Himmerland’s Greenkeeper Team

30/4 2015

Update May 2015

Spring is approaching and everything is blossoming, the same is true on the golf courses.

The courses, as noted earlier have been vertically cut, topdressed, after sown and fertilized, and the effects of this work are starting to show.

Backtee

The fairways on Backtee were hit hard by fungal diseases in the autumn of 2014, and on top of that the course was hit by pests, which caused a lot of damage. All the exposed areas have been sown and are watered regularly, but the cold temperatures mean that the re-growth is no as fast as we would like. There are sprouts in all the holes, but it will take some more warmth for them to properly grow together. We will fertilize the fairways again in week 19, and thus speed up the growth, and of course hope for some more warmth.

The greens are in good condition. Backtee’s greens are treated according to our new care plan and is progressing well. A tight fertilizing plan, top dressing in small quantities, and a plan where we prick the greens every 14 days. The pricking is with small 8mm thick spikes that do not change anything on the playing surface. The European Tour greenkeeper (Scott M) visited on the 20th April, and was extremely pleased with the condition of the course and the plan wehave laid.

Garia

The greens on Garia are nice and smooth, they are also treated according to a tight care plan, so we can get them at a good level. It is very much about fertilizing in the right quantities, top dressing as often as possible and in small quantities and an airing program. All these jobs must also be fitted in, so we do not disturb players any more than is necessary.

All the paths on Garia course are now finished with gravel and then bulldozed. They are now looking good and solid.

We are still trimming around the courses, a job that will continue over the next 2-3 weeks.

We look forward to a great golf season.

Best regards, Himmerland’s Greenkeeper Team

3/4 2015

Golf cars

We’re opening up for golf cars tomorrow, Saturday 4th April.

We ask kindly, that you take good care of the golf courses — please make sure that you only drive where you’re supposed to, and follow the signs.

Best regards, Himmerland’s Greenkeeper Team

27/3 2015

Season start & opening of Backtee Course

Garia Course is open with summer greens

Garia Course greens are in good condition with no particular signs of disease. They have been pricked several times over the winter, so the playing surface can be a bit uneven in places. The greens have been top-dressed and rolled.

There are a few damaged areas on the fairways, due to birds digging for lava – lava that, due to the mild winter, have been lying at the surface and not been hit by frost. The damaged areas have now been top-dressed and re-sown.

PGA Backtee Course opens Wednesday 1st April

PGA Backtee Course greens are also in good condition. They have been top-dressed with with approx. 1½ tons of dry sand per green. We have filled in the holes from the autumn’s pricking, where we removed a lot of “filt” (dead material).

The fairways on PGA Backtee Course have been vertically cut and top-dressed with 1,000 tons of sand. There is still some sand on the fairways as the grass needs to grow through before can be really good.

NB! If there is frost, both courses are CLOSED until it has thawed again.

Training areas

The little putting green by the driving range is open, so it’s possible to train there. The putting green by the centre is closed.

Both chipping greens will open on the 1st April.

Bette Course & Adventure Golf

Bette Course is open – whatever the weather.

The Adventure Golf course is also open and definitely worth a visit.

Best regards, Himmerland’s Greenkeeper Team

19/2 2015

Garia open with summer greens

From today, Garia Course is open again with summer greens. If there is frost, the whole course is CLOSED until it has thawed again.

The greens are in good condition with no particular signs of disease. They have been pricked several times over the winter, so the playing surface can be a bit uneven in places.

There are a few damaged areas on the fairways, due to birds digging for lava – lava that, due to the mild winter, have been lying at the surface and not been hit by frost. So the fairways are looking a bit dishelved, but when the weather gets better we will begin to top-dress and re-seed the damaged areas.

The course is relatively dry, given the time of year.

Training areas

The little putting green by the driving range is open, so you are welcome to train there, but the putting green and chipping green by starters house are still closed.

Bette Course

Bette Course is open.

Backtee Course

Backtee Course is CLOSED for all play. The greens on Backtee Course are also in excellent condition.

Best regards, Himmerland’s Greenkeeper Team

19/1 2015

Winter Course

Hi everyone

We are switching from summer greens to winter greens today, Monday 19/1 2015.

The weather forecast is showing frost all week, so the summer greens will remain closed. However, to ensure that players can still get out, we will open the following 9 holes with winter greens: 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 18 on Garia Course. These holes will remain open whatever the weather.

Best regards, Himmerland’s Greenkeeper Team

1/12 2014

Winter golf

Hi everyone

The weather is starting to get colder now, so we would like to take this opportunity to remind you of the following rule for playing in winter:

If there is frost on the putting green, the entire golf course is closed! The course will first open again when the frost has thawed.

We thank you for your understanding.

Best regards, Himmerland’s Greenkeeper Team

21/11 2014

Garia Course is closed

Hi everyone!

Garia Course is CLOSED due to frost, and will remain closed until we send a new update.

UPDATE 11:30 AM: Garia Course is now open again.

Bette Course is still open.

Best regards, Himmerland’s Greenkeeper Team

3/11 2014

Winter closure of the driving range

Unfortunately the driving range is now very wet, which means that we are no longer able to collect balls. We are therefore closing the training facilities for this year.

Golf lessons, if required, can be booked by mail to rk@himmerlanfgolf.dk.

Any members and other guests who wish to hit some golf balls are welcome to collect the balls that are lying on the driving range, but the ball machine will not be operating.

Best regards, Bobby & Steven

29/10 2014

Update from the greenkeepers

Backtee Course is closed from the 3/11 2014.

  • We will prick the fairways, forgreens and greens in weeks 45 and 46.
  • Tees will be pricked in week 46.

Garia Course

Garia Course will be open with summer greens for as long as the weather allows it. That is to say, if there is any frost during the night, the WHOLE course is closed until the frost has thawed again.

If we enter a period, where there is frost all the time, with no sign of the weather improving, we will change over to the winter course. Just like last year, the winter course will be 9 holes — 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 18. We will cut a little green and use the large winter cups.

  • We will prick the fairways, forgreens and greens in weeks 45 and 46.
  • Tees will be pricked in week 47.

The reason we prick is to get the water away from the surface, as the damp surface makes the grass extremely vulnerable to disease. Furthermore, the pricking loosens the soil and allows air to reach the grass roots. Any damage to the grass now will still be there when we start the new season, so we are doing everything we can to fight disease. We have a strict spraying programme, as we are not allowed to just spray away. There are many restrictions in place, regarding which products we may use on the grass and how much we may spray. This year we have supplemented with some biological products, and we hope that this method may provide a long-lasting solution.

The theat of disease is even greater this year due to the mild and damp autumn, but we are aware of the challenges we face.

Other jobs we will be working on during the coming weeks:

  • Pruning in the holiday cottage areas (owners’ wishes will be met as well as possible)
  • Pruning in the public areas, and working on the visual beauty of the areas
  • We will keep on cutting the grass as there is still good growth
  • Pruning around the golf courses
  • A few projects such as improving the paths, closing a bunker, making a new rep green and drainage work
  • The machines will be prepared for winer
  • Golf cars will be put into storage for the winter (the courses are now closed to golf cars)
  • The irrigation unit will be emptied in week 47, after which there will be no water in the toilet buildings on the course.

Best regards, Himmerland’s Greenkeeper Team

23/10 2014

Closing of Backtee Course

Backtee Course will close for the winter on Saturday 1st November.

Garia Course will remain open for as long as the weather allows, although still with hole 2 as a par 3 hole (see the update below from the 16/10 for more info).

Best regards, Himmerland’s Greenkeeper Team

21/10 2014

Updates to Backtee Course

Tees 63 and 68 (back tee & tour tee) are closed from today.

The markers have been brought in and the tees won’t be opened again until the spring. For the rest of the year you can play from tees 52, 56 or 60.

Best regards, Himmerland’s Greenkeeper Team

20/10 2014

Continued ban on golf cars

Due to the continued rainfall, there are still no golf cars allowed on the courses — this applies to both rented and private cars.

This is obviously to help protect the courses, but it is also dangerous to drive the cars in these conditions. The cars can easily slide on the wet grass and end up in the wrong places, resulting in serious damage and injury.

The closure will continue until further notice.

Best regards, Himmerland’s Greenkeeper Team

16/10 2014

Changes to Garia Course hole 2

The fairway on hole 2 Garia Course is so flooded that the head greenkeeper has decided to close the tee. A new tee is being established where the tee used to be “in the old day” — to the left of the 1st green, and the hole will now be played as a par 3 hole.

The greenkeepers will set signs up showing the way, and the hole will be played this way until further notice, as (unfortunately) there is more rain forecast…

15/9 2014

No golf cars

Due to heavy rainfall, no golf cars will be permitted on the golf courses tomorrow, Thursday 16th October

We thank you for your understanding.

Best regards, Himmerland’s Greenkeeper Team

15/9 2014

Backtee Course — uge 38

Hej everyone,

The greens on Backtee Course will be pricked and rolled today, Monday 15th September.

This does not detract from the greens’ condition – but gives them air and makes the playing surface smoother.

The work will be carried out so as not to interupt play in any way.

Best regards, Himmerland’s Greenkeeper Team.

4/9 2014

Backtee Course — week 36

All the greens on Backtee Course have been vertically scored and re-sown this week.

Best regards, Himmerland’s Greenkeeper Team.

12/5 2014

No golf cars

UPDATE 1pm: Golf cars are not permitted on the golf course for the rest of the day. We will open the golf course for cars again tomorrow.

Due to the heavy rainfall over the weekend the golf courses are very wet and are therefore closed for all golf cars.

We will send another update later today where we make a decision about when we expect to open the courses to golf cars again.

Best regards, Himmerland’s Greenkeeper Team

1/5 2014

Work on Backtee Course

We have now completed 4 days work on Backtee Course in preparation for Made in Denmark. We have added over 1000 tons of sand from Dansand to fairways, greens, forgreens and tees and all areas are now ready to receive the top dressing that will make our playing surfaces top notch.

There will therefore be sand on the playing surfaces over the next 10 days, but it shouldn’t cause too much of an inconvenience to play. Greens will be up to our normal standard with a speed of over 9 feet.

We recommend pick clean and place on closely-cut areas, but will leave it up to the players to decide if this is necessary. Play on the fairways will be fine, but with sand under the ball.

We apologise for this but will soon be back in top form.

Himmerland’s Greenkeeper Team.

25/04 2014

Course status, week 17

Backtee Course

We are working intensively to prepare the course for the Made in Denmark tournament, there is a lot of work that needs to be carried out now to ensure that the course is ready in August. There are therefore many areas that have recently been re-sown or are under repair. We are doing a lot of top-dressing on the greens, fore-greens and tees, and next week from Sunday to Wednesday it will be the fairways’ turn. There may therefore be sand on the course, but it will be over quickly!

We would like to ask all golfers to help us out by observing the signs that we place around the course!

Please also help us by replacing turfs and repairing any pitch marks you see. Please don’t pull your trolleys through the high rough near the tess and greens, but stay on the paths. Why? Because the course doesn’t look good with paths tracked through the rough — that’s why!

Garia Course

We are also busy on Garia Course and are still working on improving the course. We are now seeing the result of the new grass on the greens and the drainage work that has been carried out in many places.

Please remember to fix turfs and pitch marks here too.

Have fun!
Himmerland’s Greenkeeper Team.

Garia Course is dry and looking really nice. The greens and fairways are newly mown and good. Fore-greens are top-dressed with sand, the grass hasn’t completely grown through yet so there may be small patches of sand.

Bette Course is mown and playable.
